This BookBench uses a silhouette, very popular in the regency period and Jane’s favourite colour, turquoise, to celebrate her love of dancing and the importance of dancing in her love stories. This is a very special location – St Nicholas’ church is where her father and later her brother, were rector and Jane was born just down the road in a farmhouse long demolished but not forgotten. Jane lived there for 25 of her 41 years. Steventon was very much the cradle of her genius.
The church is open for you to explore. The road to the Steventon Church is narrow and there is height restriction (9’11”) for the tunnel to get to Steventon from the B3400 (Sat nav nearest postcode: RG23 7EL). The BookBench is right outside the church gate. There is some parking at the church, but please park considerately. There are no toilet facilities in the village.
Festival Place is the headline sponsor for Sitting With Jane and is sponsoring this BookBench. It is one of the biggest shopping centres in the south and is a proud host for the event.
