Chawton Woodwalk

This BookBench was inspired by the countryside around Chawton, a place where Jane was happy and productive, imagine her on afternoon walks with her sister Cassandra through the woods. The colours and patchwork were inspired by a quilt at the Jane Austen House Museum where she lived from 1809 until just before she died in 1817.

This BookBench is sponsored jointly by East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council as part of their celebration of Jane Austen’s life in Hampshire.

The BookBench is located right outside the Jane Austen House Museum , Jane Austen’s home during her most productive years as a novelist – open everyday from 10am to 5pm. Just up the road is the Chawton House Library, open Monday to Friday (12-4pm) and Sundays (11am – 5pm), they also host a wide variety of events.

Parking is available near the BookBench, and there is a pub and restaurant in the village.
